چکیده

_~ Figure 1: Conceptual diagram of bunch-by-bunch feedback. The phase-of each bunch is detected and a feedback signal particular to that bunch is produced by the filter and is applied via the kicker. _~ The phase is.. dejected, filtered, and the feedback correction signal is applied by the kicker. Since we are damping energy oscillations using measurements of phase, the required feedback signal must be proportional to the amplitude of the phase oscillations but phase shifted by 90 degrees. This signal must be calculated for each of the 1658 bunches, in parallel. In the original proposal, it was estimated that a farm of approximately 480 digital signal process.ors (DSPs) would be required to impJement the feedback system. However, using the technique of downsampling, this number can be reduced to about 50 DSPs. In what follows, we will briefly explain the basic idea of downsampling and its implementation.

Commissioning Experience from PEP-II HER Longitudinal Feedback

The DSP-based bunch-by-bunch feedback system installed in the PEPII high-energy ring (HER) has been used to damp instabilities induced by unwanted higher-order modes (HOMs) at beam currents up to 605 mA during commissioning. Beam pseudospectra calculated from feedback system data indicate the presence of coupled-bunch modes that coincide with a previously observed cavity mode (0-M-2). Bunch cur...

Beam Diagnostics Based on Time - Domain

A bunch-by-bunch longitudinal feedback system has been used to control coupledbunch longitudinal motion and study the behavior of the beam at ALS, SPEAR, PEP-II, and DA Φ NE. Each of these machines presents unique challenges to feedback control of unstable motion and data analysis. Here we present techniques developed to adapt this feedback system to operating conditions at these accelerators. ...

A Matrix Formalism for Landau Damping

Existing methods of analysing the e ect of bunch to bunch tune shifts on coupled bunch instabilities are applicable to beams with a single unstable mode, or a few non-interacting unstable modes. We present a more general approach that involves computing the eigenvalues of a reduced state matrix. The method is applied to the analysis of PEP-II longitudinal coupled bunch modes, a large number of ...
